LISTEN! I am SO happy YOU are here! I hope you love it so much here that you just have to bring your friends along!
So who the heck am I? Well, after 32 years in this body and mind, I am finally starting to figure that out. Buckle. Up. First, I am the daughter of The One True King (so forgive me if sometimes I act like royalty, I'm a WIP -work in progress). Next I am the wife of my best friend and biggest fan, even when he gets on my last nerve. Together, he and I have built a life that I truly love, we have 3 children and I homeschool our oldest two. Brooks is 8 and is into baseball, track and pokèmon, honestly, I am not a huge fan of either of those last two. Baseball though, it has a home plate for a reason. Lukas, is 5, and he has my face and attitude. God help that child -seriously, pray for him! His favorite things are whatever Brooks is doing, which Brooks absolutely hates! Then there is Sophia, our baby girl who just turned 1. Imagine the most sass you can fit in a tiny person, then pat it down and double it! We have 3 dogs, a 10 year old Morkie named Dolly, a 5 year old German Shepherd named Mia, and a 2 year old German Shepherd named Coal. Out in the barnyard (jk, we just live in the country) we have 20 chickens. Obviously, our lives are a tad chaotic but we have it functioning like a well-oiled machine.
Now, how did we get to this point? I have dreamed of owning my own business since I was a child, in 2017, we got the opportunity with some friends as business partners. It didn't go well, the business went fine, it was everything else that unraveled at the seams. Then in 2018, I thought I had my vision and my plan, and well I just didn't and I was still dealing with the depression that the previous few months had given me. But, 2018 is when we actually got our brick and mortar space that we have had since. The first week of August 2018 in that 7 day span I lost 3 of the strongest mentors in my life, back to back. September 2018-March 2019 I ended up attending the funerals of 17 people very close to my in my life, young, old, it didn't matter, all but 1 was a sudden death. Depression is NO JOKE and it is a spiral that is incredibly hard to get out of. During this period I was introduced An Xiety (anxiety). I'm not too keen on her either, but I can manage her a whole lot better now. So I spent 2019 reassembling myself and my life, and really trying to figure out "what I wanted" so I came up with our "second rebrand," apparently it wasn't my best idea because the week I was launching hard covid decided to show up. So, during covid, I had baby girl, and did some more work on my mental health. I emerged from some very dark places to finally embrace ME. "Flaws and all." If I don't love it, I'm not doing it.
Bourbon Flamingo is a name that just stuck. I have LOVED flamingos since I was a little girl, and they are just an awkward bird. -Well, if you haven't figured it out by now, I'm awkward. I think we all are just a little bit.- I am a Kentucky girl born and raised. What says Kentucky better than bourbon? (I'm pretty sure I've never tasted it outside of a cake.) As soon as I heard it, I just knew, and then all the pieces have fallen into place.
If at this point, you're invested and reading this, thank you for sticking with me to get this story out. We are still in the early stages of our growth, but it is only up from here. We are truly a family operation, the boys love to help me pull items for orders, or watch me create shirts. My husband helps me complete the screen printing side. My mother in law has baby girl duty while we are all working. She is actually on her way to being our first official employee!
I can finally say, I love myself, and I love my business. What we are doing here may not look like anything you've ever seen before for a business model, and that is exactly the goal. We have big plans and big dreams. I am so honored you are here for the ride! No matter your dreams, just keep dreaming! You are worth it! Never, ever give up on what sets your soul on fire. If I can achieve my dreams, so can you! I am cheering for you!
Thanks for being a part of my flamboyance.
So much love to each and every one of you!
